FITNESS TRAINING

Whatever your fitness goal may be: fat loss, muscle gain, or just training to be healthy, we can assist you in reaching your goals. Age is also not an issue, our training staff has experience with all ages. We do not offer exclusively 1-on-1 training because it is not cost effective for our clients. What we do offer is group atmosphere that is filled with like-minded people who are all working toward something just like you.

The newer you are the more 1-on-1 time you get with a trainer. As you get comfortable with the weight room, terminology, and how to perform various exercises with proper technique you will graduate to needing less assistance. You are never completely without a trainer though, at least one coach is always in the weight room to ensure your getting through your program properly.

SPEED DEVELOPMENT

Speed training geared toward increasing muscular coordination, spacial awareness, movement efficiency, top speed, acceleration, deceleration, and agility.

SPEED DEVELOPMENT

Speed training is an essential component to increasing overall athletic ability. PCSP speed development training is geared to increase muscular coordination, spacial awareness, movement efficiency, top speed, acceleration, deceleration, and agility. It is however, important to understand what is meant by the broad term of speed training. Under this umbrella exists four main terms: linear speed, acceleration, deceleration, and lateral speed (or agility).

Just as all sports skills must be broken down and practiced until technique is perfect, so must the methods of speed and agility be broken down until running, cutting, landing, and stopping are mastered. By continually increasing efficiency in all of the categories of speed training the athlete will notice the same increase of efficiency and speed in all sports skills, especially the all important game speed.

POWERLIFTING

Monthly membership for powerlifting includes coaching, programming, and access to Wilmington’s most well equipped powerlifting facility.

POWERLIFTING

PCSP’s very own powerlifting team competes in raw and geared competitions. Competition ready equipment is available including benches, racks, and mono lifts, along with Okie dead lift and Westside barbell Bulldog bench and squat bars. Monthly membership for powerlifting includes coaching, programming, and access to Wilmington’s most well equipped powerlifting facility.

There’s a one time membership fee that includes a starter pack of wrist of knee wraps and t-shirt. This fee helps to insure the Port City Power Lifting team has all the best equipment, and coaches will be readily available at all meets.

WRESTLING TRAINING

Port City Sports Performance is home to Port City Pirates Youth Wrestling Program and UNCW Seahawks Wrestling. Both programs train at PCSP. PCSP coaches provide the instruction and training for the Port City Pirates.

PIRATES WRESTLING

Port City Pirates offers wrestling for elementary and middle school aged athletes.

The goal of the Port City Pirates is to introduce the sport of wrestling to athletes at a young age through practice, training, and competitions. Coaches will provide a fun and exciting atmosphere through top level coaching. Training will focus on providing basic techniques and fundamentals by a variety of coaches with more than a combined 30 years of experience.

BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

Here at PCSP you can come train with the best BJJ Black Belt in Wilmington, John Salter. John also teaches BJJ as relevant to MMA as well.

BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling art that was popularized in America by the sport of MMA. Jiu-Jitsu concentrates on dominating your opponent by using angles, leverage, and superior body positioning to control an opponents body movement. A person that has a superior position is in a better situation to apply a finishing hold or to start striking. This style allows for a smaller person to defeat a much larger attacker which makes it great for women’s self defense.

We believe that it is important to not only control your opponent on the ground, but on the feet as well. That is why we work wrestling, judo, and sombo into our BJJ techniques. In BJJ we have a belt system that helps encourage and track progress. For adults, the belt system goes through 5 levels. White, Blue, Purple, Brown, and Black.

INJURY PREVENTION

Injury prevention is of utmost importance here at PCSP. As we always tell our athletes it does not matter how big, strong, or fast you are, if you aren’t on the field it doesn’t help anyone. The injury prevention piece is also aided by our initial assessments and our ongoing assessments of the athletes as they perform daily tasks in the gym.

Our experienced coaching staff has the ability to watch an athlete move and foresee possible problem areas that if not addressed could cause injury. Using techniques to improve strength, mobility, flexibility, or stability we can efficiently correct these flaws.

BOOT CAMP

BOOT CAMP

Join us Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5 or 6 AM in our Port City Sports Performance: BOOT CAMP!

The duration of each session is 60 minutes. The first 10-12 minutes will contain a dynamic warm-up paired with stretching to prepare your body for the workout. After this the trainer will go over the movements that pertain to the session while answering any questions you may have! The sessions are designed to challenge you, motivate you, and promote a fun environment while also working systemically with the previous and next one to optimize your strength, weight-loss, and toning results. The equipment and tools used in the main workout will range from the conventional dumbbell or medicine ball to the metabolic reigns of the battle rope, unconventionality of the steel mace and the challenging displacement in the grips of the sandbags or kettlebells! The Last 10-12 Minutes of the session will consist of a mobility cooldown to help your recovery and get you moving into your day!

The classes are for ages 16+ and for any fitness level! The movements are completely scalable, so they can be performed and modified for the first time exercisers and also give a challenging push to the most dedicated of athletes!.

Our primary goal is to have fun learning different arts of striking while conditioning the body and becoming healthier. One on one coaching is also offered for each student. Also, for more experienced students/fighters, one on one sessions will explore more advanced skills to equip you with more tools to compete at a higher level.

I have been training in Muay Thai and boxing since 2012 in Lynchburg, Virginia with The Edge Martial Arts and Fitness under Troy Champney and Wil Dorsette. Since 2012 I have worked with and trained numerous amateur fighters for both Muay Thai and MMA fights. I have coached children as young as 5 and adults up to 65. No one is too young or old to start, and everyone has something to learn.
